The saga follows Isabella ‘Bella’ Swan as she moves to the small town of Forks, Washington, and falls in love with vampire, Edward Cullen.

The series begins with Twilight, in which we meet Bella as she moves to Forks and meets vampire family, the Cullens. Falling for Edward, Bella’s life comes under threat from sadistic vampire, James. The novel closes after an attempt on Bella’s life, whereupon Bella and Edward are reunited.

In New Moon, Edward leaves to protect Bella. Bella becomes withdrawn, until she becomes friends with newly turned werewolf, Jacob Black, who falls in love with her. After an accident, Edward believes Bella to be dead, and travels to vampire family, the Volturi, hoping they will kill him. Bella and Edward are finally reunited, and leave with the promise to turn her into a vampire.

Eclipse opens with a string of vampire attacks from previous character, Victoria. Edward and Jacob must work together to protect Bella, their families and their homes, whilst still vying for her heart. Bella finally chooses to stay with Edward and agrees to marry him, to Jacob’s disappointment.

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner is a novella that runs parallel to the Eclipse plot. It follows the newborn vampire Bree as her group sets out to attack Bella, Edward and Jacob.

The series ends with Breaking Dawn, in which Bella and Edward get married and fall pregnant. After nearly dying, Bella is turned into a vampire and their daughter Renesmee is born. Believing Renesmee to be a danger to society, the Volturi travel to kill her. When they see otherwise, they let her live.

The series is seen mainly through Bella’s eyes, even though Jacob features as a prominent narrator for the epilogue of Eclipse and a portion of Breaking Dawn. The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner is narrated by Bree.
